MAJOR RECENT CULTURAL AND ARTS PROJECTS

Designed and launched the Healing Arts Project. Teaching children to write for children, using expressive arts to channel positive energies or vulnerable and at risk youth. This project also trains artisits to work with at risk populations in communities. 

HAND UP - An 8 country research report on the state of young artists in the Caribbean. Presented to the 18th Meeting of Caribbean Directors of Culture, July 2014.

Designed and facilitated 4 day workshop for secondary school teachers on writing age appropriate plays for children.

A Man Called Garvey

Jamaican born Pan-African leader Marcus Mosiah Garvey was born in 1887. He spent his short life working towards African self-awareness, self-reliance and political and economic liberation. He died in London in 1940 at the age of 52. This book tells his story.​

The Massacura Man

The Massacura Man

A play about moral courage, social justice, respect for the environment, history and tradition. “The Massacuraman, engages mythology in its use of the Massacuraman, a feared demon figure who inhabits the Guyanese rivers and creeks. Despite his dreaded reputation, he is, in fact, a protector of the forest environment similar to the role played by Papa Bois of the Eastern Caribbean and Trinidad.

Duenne

There is a character in Caribbean folk mythology known as the “Duenne”. This is the spirit of a child which first appears to humans as an abandoned “sack.” It attracts attention to itself by emitting the wail of a new born baby.

2012 - 2013: The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce for support to CineGuyana in the creation of “Femme” - 3 short films on women’s issues.

 

2010 - 2011: Government of Guyana, President’s Film Endowment for creating filmmakers in Guyana. CineGuyana 1, 8 short films created.

 

2010: USAID-HED Grant to support making of Films on Guyana. 188 people trained.

 

2010: Office of the President support for making student documentaries about Guyana. 5 documentaries produced.

 

2003: UNESCO Cultural Grant to produce teaching materials for children on Caribbean folklore. Book of 5 plays produced.
