On Monday, October 26, 2015, the Theatre Guild of Guyana Multi Arts Centre officially inaugurated its Eucalyptus Garden Theatre on the grounds behind the Theatre Playhouse in Kingston, Georgetown.
The Guild’s Eucalyptus Garden Theatre is an open air theatre that harks back to the origins of theatre in ancient Egypt, Africa and India which pre-date even the Greek theatre traditions.
Originally performance was thought to be a special communion with God. Since God was thought to be vested in nature, natural spaces were optimal to this communication and union.
This idea also revolved around the idea of community and participation, in which the audience is inside and close to the action and not alienated from it as in the proscenium arch (square stage with actors above and audience below) that has become the popular norm worldwide.
The Stage of the Guilds Eucalyptus Garden Theatre is a perfect circle, the audience is seated around it coliseum style and all this is settled softly in a beautiful therapeutic garden behind the Guild's Playhouse.

One Act Foundation Launches @ 704 Sky Lounge
April 4, 2016
The International Committee of the Queen’s College of Guyana Alumni Associations (ICQC) in collaboration with Healing Arts Foundation and Theatre Guild launched the G-Jazz Festival at the Moray House Trust.
G-Jazz, which the organisers describe as a festival to “protect jazz that is created by Guyanese, jazz that is performed by Guyanese and inspired by Guyana,” is for the most part a charitable event that will be supported largely by the work of volunteers and will see half of all proceeds made going to 11 identified charities across Guyana. However, the broader goal of the festival, which will be held annually, is to fund the development of a ‘Centre of Excellence for Fine Arts’ at Queen’s College.
The Walter Rodney Awards for Creative Writing are named in honour of the scholarship, research and writings of Dr. Walter Rodney, a Pan-Africanist historian, educator and political activist, recognized as one of the Caribbean’s most brilliant minds. Rodney spoke about research, scholarship and creative writing, noting that even in challenging times, great literature has been produced.
The Award which is under the patronage of a private philanthropist, seeks to improve the standard and discourse of creative writing in Guyana; the main focus being on rewarding original works from recent and current students of the University of Guyana. The Walter Rodney Awards for Creative Writing was launched in October 2013 under the auspices of the Walter Rodney Foundation (WRF) based in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
